Our Boys

rnKnowing who to draft and who not to draft can be the difference between first place and fourth place in your fantasy league. And we all know that fourth place means nothing.

rnOver the last few months Fantasy Phenoms has touted many hitters and pitchers alike. We decided that "making up" projections offer little insight and often can't be backed up by anything other than "our gut." Giving reasons why you should target certain players and why not to target others was our choice. Using sabermetrics and other statistic-based tools and analysis we've provided objective insight to back up our research.

rnTo help you in your drafts this year, we've put together our third annual Our Boys list. This list includes players you want on your 2010 roster and players you don't want on your 2010 roster.

rn If you've been following Our Boys since 2008, you've been quite successful.

rnThe Red Number is the approximate round you can draft the player in.

The 7 and 7 Draft Strategy

rnWhat is 7 and 7 and why should you implement this strategy on draft day?

rn

rnStep 1: Make the first seven players you draft hitters

rnSome facts:

rnThe best hitters can provide you with five categories.  The best starting pitchers don't register saves, making the elite only four category guys.

rnHitters are more reliable and durable that pitchers.  What happened to Brandon Webb?  How far have Carlos Zambrano and Roy Oswalt fallen?  Remember Aaron Harang, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Barry Zito?  What about one-year-wonders Erik Bedard, Ervin Santana and Ben Sheets?

rn
All of those pitchers have ventured into the top 10 on draft day at some point in their career.  Now, they are healthy yet afterthoughts when it comes to building your team's staff .  Raise your hand if you've ever drafted one of them only to be disappointed?  It's alright.  We all have.

rnTim Lincecum went in the 10th round the year he blew up.  So did Zack Greinke a year ago.  Isn't it amazing how Adam Wainwright, Jon Lester, Justin Verlander, Wandy Rodriguez, Ubaldo Jimenez, Chris Carpenter, Tommy Hanson, Clayton Kershaw and Josh Johnson all fall into the top 25 on most lists?  How many of them went undrafted in a league of yours last year?  How many of them were picked in rounds 20 or later?  Read More...
